Dad's MOT! 17th June 2022
Keeping your body in check seems like second nature, but sometimes we need a helping hand to make sure everything is, well, as it should be. So at Stoke Chiro, we offer check-ups, or as we like to call them, MOTs, so you can have that peace of mind that your body is working and moving just as it should.
An MOT is very similar to a car MOT, in that we conduct a thorough check to see what is working and what isn't and what we could help you improve on. The check consists of 20 points, ranging from a detailed spinal assessment right through to reflex tests (yes, the one with the knees…); these checks are thorough, and we produce a comprehensive report at the end to chat through with you, alongside an optional treatment plan if there is anything we could help with.
Why we need regular checkups
There are so many reasons! For one, we are human beings living in this world that we designed, but that doesn't really work for us all the time. From driving to sitting at a desk all day, these things can have a jarring impact on the body and can cause things to move and stiffen where they would once move freely. Another reason is that we might be doing things to our body without even knowing, like, do you stand and lean on one hip, or do you carry a bag on one shoulder? You might not know it, but these things can cause you to walk differently and even be a little bit wonky. Don't worry; we have all been there!
The benefits of regular checkups
Regular checkups mean we can catch any niggles before they become bigger problems. Our team can spot slight issues and advise on the best course of action - sometimes it is as simple as moving more or drinking more water, really! Other times it may need a little more attention, and we can put together a treatment plan to get you back on track.
What you can do in the meantime
We may advise some lifestyle changes, like we mentioned above, in between your checkups. However, aside from this, you can start by keeping active and moving, which we know is easier said than done. If you have a desk job, for example, see if you can move for ten minutes every hour or two, it will make a huge difference. Other things you can do are improving core strength and taking care of your body - and your mind - with the things you consume. This means food, social media, and the whole shebang. The mind and body are very closely connected.
Does everyone need regular treatment?
Not necessarily. Regular checkups are a different kettle of fish from regular treatment - every body is different, which is wonderful! Speak with a member of the team if you would like to find out more about our checkups and treatment.
