High Heels? Avoid back pain with these top tips 3rd January 2018
As the party season is upon us, will you be strutting out in your heels this Christmas?
Studies have shown that high heels change the mechanics of the foot and ankle, causing abnormal muscle activation of the legs and back.
So, for all those planning on wearing heels this Christmas season, here are some useful tips:
• Try wearing a kitten heel rather than a high heel - this reduces the pressure on the balls of the feet and lowers its effect on the spine
• If you must wear high heels, avoid wearing them for long periods of time and for dancing!
• Stretch the leg muscles, in particular the calf, before and after putting them on
• Buy shoes in the afternoon when your feet are at their largest
• A thicker heel is better than a stiletto heel – it has a greater surface area to distribute your body weight across
• And finally, remember to bring a pair of flats just in case!
Wishing you all Happy partying over the Christmas and New Year period!
