New Year, New You! 4th January 2017
New Year, New You
Welcome to 2017! The new year is always a time when people think about their health, so why not try these 4 simple things to improve your health this year.
Stay hydrated: Water plays a vital role in nearly every bodily function. Water makes up around 70% of your lean muscle, about 80% of your blood and nearly 85% of your brain! Increasing your water intake can reduce daytime fatigue, increase your energy levels and even suppress your appetite and help the body to metabolise stored fat. Current recommendations are to drink half your body weight in ounces of water, eg if you weigh 140lbs you should drink 70oz (1.9L) of water. If this seems a lot, increase you current intake gradually or swap soft drinks for water infused with fresh fruit.
Move more: Movement is vital to keep your joints lubricated and can help to reverse or delay age related changes in joints and muscles. Aim for 30 minutes physical activity per day, but even small changes like taking the stairs instead of the lift and getting up and moving every hour when sitting will help.
Mindfulness: Having good mental health is vital to your overall wellbeing. Practicing mindfulness for just a few minutes a day, whether through yoga or meditation, or by recording your thoughts in a gratitude diary, can reduce stress or anxiety, improve your mood, increase immune function, improve relationships and increase your energy.
Get Adjusted: Your brain communicates via every single cell in your body via the nervous system which is housed within your spinal column. Damage, misalignment, altered curves and imbalance of the spine will lead to an ineffective brain-body connection. Studies have shown that chiropractic care can have positive effects on your nervous system and brain function, your posture, your overall health and your coordination.
What changes will you make this year?
